Inspirational Women – Camilla

Who doesn’t love a brightly coloured Camilla outfit on a beautiful Summer’s day or Winter’s day too.

Camilla Franks founded her label Camilla 14 years ago and she’s a true inspiration with the business she’s built and the amazing designs she keeps coming up with.

Camilla isn’t someone who studied fashion design. Early in her career she was a stage actress who created her own pieces to wear in between scenes and on stage. People in the fashion industry who saw her on stage asked to buy her kaftans and rehearsal gear.

It was Camilla’s simple kaftan concept that saw the evolution of her brand and a debut collection at the InterContinental Hotel in Sydney in 2004.

That same year she got her first big break when the department store David Jones made the decision to stock her first collection. I believe at the time David Jones thought Camilla would be a one hit wonder. Gee, she proved them soooo wrong!

Fourteen years on and Camilla is stocked worldwide and worn by an array of celebrities such as Oprah and Beyoncé. Wow! You can’t get better than that. Well done Camilla! I have my fingers crossed that someday soon I will also get lucky with my label of handcrafted sandals - Ankalia, which by-the-way are a perfect match with every Camilla outfit.
