Matilda Green Sparkly Low Heeled Sandals
Never in my life had I ever watched a single game of soccer!
Being a born and bred Melbournian, all I ever knew was AFL when I was growing up. I just didn’t get how a game with a score of 1-0 or 0-0 could be fun to watch. But boy-oh-boy did that all change thanks to the Matildas.
The Matildas have represented Australia at the FIFA Women’s World Cup on eight occasions, but not once did I take any notice or watch a game until Australia was a co-host in 2023. It was sooooo exciting and I’m now definitely a converted fan. I love the Matildas, I love what they have achieved, I love that they are inspiring both boys and girls all over Australia and all over the world.
Some of the key highlights at the 2023 World Cup were:
- They defeated reigning Olympic champions Canada 4–0. This was Australia's biggest ever win at a World Cup match.
- They then defeated Denmark 2–0. This was just the second time Australia won a knockout match at the Women's World Cup.
- They went on to defeat France 7–6 on penalty kicks, thus becoming the first senior Australian team to make a world cup semi-final. The quarter-final match between Australia and France also saw the longest penalty shootout in the history of the FIFA Women's World Cup, with 20 total kicks.
- Sadly, they were defeated 3–1 by England in the semi-final.
- The Matilda's campaign ended with a 2–0 loss to Sweden to finish fourth. This marked the highest-ever finish of any Australian soccer team in senior level.
All the girls were amazing, and I love that they are sporty, natural, down to earth, humble and totally supportive off each other.
To honour the Matildas (the Tillies) and being a proud Australian girl, I decided to create a new sandal design in green and gold and of course named them Matilda.
The Matilda is in beautiful gold leather with Swarovski crystals in Peridot green.
