The Garment District and Mood Fabrics New York City

Sandals are what I design and make but I’m also a fashion lover and dress loving kind of girl.
As a little girl I grew up with Mum making most of my clothes on her sewing machine.
I would go to bed at night and listen to the gentle hum of Mum’s sewing machine whirring away.
Quite often, I would wake up in the morning to the thrill of a beautiful new dress hanging on my doorknob.
Many Saturdays were spent going to the haberdashery pouring through the pattern books for the perfect dress pattern, then choosing the fabric, along with some sort of trim and also the perfect buttons. A little bit like designing sandals today.
The reason I’m sharing this bit of my fashion history is because on my recent “New York with Sami” trip we went to the garment district and did a private tour of the most famous fabric store in the world – Mood Fabrics on West 37th Street.
This NYC flagship store plays host to more than 1,200 customers every day and has played a vital role in the fashion and movie world for more than 20 years. It was even named one of “Fashions 50 Most Powerful” by the New York Daily News.
So, if you’re in New York and have an appreciation of fabric or sewing then the Garment District and Mood Fabrics is certainly worth a visit. I loved it!
Lots of love,
Cheryl xx
