Living in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney over the years, as well as many years living overseas in Europe and the USA, I absolutely adore big city life but I also love a beachy outdoorsy lifestyle.
At least once a year, usually in Spring or Autumn I pack my bags with a few friends and head off to Noosa to enjoy a relaxed, beach filled week or 10 days.
Noosa is my number one upmarket beach holiday destination in Australia.
The weather in Spring or Autumn is warm but not too hot which makes it perfect for lots of outdoor activities. It also means you can be outdoors without absolutely roasting.
Why do I love Noosa so much? Here’s a few reasons. Well it is quite upmarket in terms of accommodation, restaurants and shops but on top of that Noosa’s main beach is stunning and the waves aren’t too big which makes it a little more family friendly when you have little ones in tow.
Also the main strip of Hastings Street runs parallel to the beach so you don’t need a car. You can walk from your accommodation to the beach every day, as well as to the shops, cafes and restaurants. Makes it so easy going out at night, particularly if you want to have a few cocktails!
Secondly there is a beautiful National Park where you can go for long walks or runs and experience some of the Queensland flora and fauna. You will probably even see a Goanna if you walk there each day. There is a fantastic track that starts at the southern end of Hastings Street and goes through the National Park all the way to the stunning Sunshine Beach, which has bigger surf, a quieter beach and lots of stunning homes to look at.
Where to stay? There is a good selection of accommodation along Hastings Street. My recommendation is to stay at Fairshore Noosa. It is absolute beachfront and right in the middle of all the action on Hastings Street. The apartment style accommodation looks out over the pool and onto the beach.
There are loads of day trips and activities to choose from if you don’t want to sit on the beach each day. An absolute must is a 4WD day trip to the World Heritage Listed Fraser Island. You need to book an organised tour for this.
My favourite activity though, has to be horse riding on the beach and through the bush at Noosa North Shore. It’s highly likely you’ll see kangaroos too! My recommendation is that you book with the multi award winning Equathon Horse Riding Adventures.
There are loads more activities in and around Noosa. Go to the Visitor Information Centre at the southern end of Hastings Street to see the huge range of activities and tours on offer.
Finally, I have to mention the shopping on Hastings Street is really good too!
Lots of love,
