Swarovski crystals are man-made gems manufactured in Austria. In 1892, Daniel Swarovski invented a machine for making precision cut, beautiful, high quality lead glass crystals using quartz, sand and minerals.

So really Swarovski crystals aren’t a gemstone or even a crystal, they’re a form of glass that’s made at a high temperature by melting silicon oxide powders with lead to form what is known as lead crystal. The exact process is patented by Swarovski.

The exact proportions of these raw materials are a company secret. This specialised manufacturing process ensures the highest possible degree of precision which produces brilliant crystals.
