The Colour for August is Orange

Orange is the colour between red and yellow in the spectrum of light on the traditional painters’ wheel. It is named after the fruit – orange.

The colour orange is a fun, dynamic colour that tends to elicit strong reactions. A close relative of red, orange seems to spark more controversy than any other colour. It’s bold, vivid and obnoxious at times. And there is usually a strong positive or strong negative association – you either "love it" or "hate it.”

I have plenty of days when I hate orange but in saying that I noticed that I do have a number of orange Summer dresses in my wardrobe. I tend to prefer paler shades of orange, like coral or peachy-orange.
In Europe, surveys show that orange is the colour most associated with amusement, the unconventional, extroverts, warmth, fire, energy, activity, danger, taste, aroma and Autumn. It is also the national colour of The Netherlands. In Asia, it is an important symbolic colour of Buddhism and Hinduism.

Orange can signify a rather interesting contradiction. The two primary ways in which the colour communicates speak to two opposing ideas—activity and caution. Orange can encourage our attitude to be more energetic and lively, while at the same time can instill a sense of restraint.
Have a great August and enjoy your orange! Ha ha!
Lots of love,
