Don’t Be Slack. Find a Rubbish Bin

Every day when I’m out and about I see rubbish lying in the street. I hate it! We live in a beautiful world and we should do our best to keep it as pristine as possible.

It baffles me that some people can’t wait to find a rubbish bin and just throw their rubbish away or leave it behind or shove it into a groove in a park bench. Aaaagh! If you can’t find a bin take your rubbish home with you or at least keep it until you do find a bin.

It's unlike me to have a rant about something like this but this is an area of life where we can all easily do the right thing and chip in to pick up rubbish when we see it. I’ve made a pact with myself to at least keep my own street clean and rubbish free. Some days when I pull out of my driveway I see rubbish on the nature strip on the other side of the road. I now stop and go and pick it up and put it in my own home bin before I leave. The first time I did a rubbish pick up in my street, I picked up 58 items in a 100 metre stretch of nature strip. Gee I felt good afterwards and I now feel very proud when I drive home and see that the section of nature strip opposite my house is rubbish free. Yeah!

I also go to the beach a lot and if I see any rubbish at all at the beach I pick it up and carry it to a bin straight away.

Also, I urge everyone to use their recycling bin. That’s the one with the yellow lid. Please don’t be a slacker and dump your rubbish in the incorrect bin. We all need to dispose of our rubbish correctly and it’s not that hard to do. We're very lucky to live in a beautiful place like Australia so let's quit using it as our personal rubbish bin.
Doing a good deed of picking up rubbish is great for the world and great for your soul. As I mentioned, I feel a sense of self-satisfaction when I see my perfectly rubbish free nature strip every night when I drive home.

Start picking up rubbish when you see it and see how good it makes you feel. Send me your comments too and let me know how you go.
Lots of love,
