It’s tough to love our clothes and shoes and keep wearing them for more than one season when we are faced with a tempting array of newness on offer in the shops constantly. But before you head out to the January sales for those irresistible shoe deals, spare a thought for the impact of fast fashion on our global environment.

Fast fashion is all about speed and low cost in order to deliver frequent new collections inspired by catwalk looks and the latest celebrity styles. But it is particularly bad for the environment as pressure to reduce costs and the time it takes to get a product from design to the shop floor means that environmental corners are more likely to be cut. Criticisms of fast fashion include its negative environmental impact, water pollution, the use of toxic chemicals, increasing levels of textile waste, as well as the very low wages and poor working conditions of factory employees in many countries.

I’m definitely no expert on the environmental impact of fast fashion. But I can definitely say that our Ankalia sandals are not fast, disposable fashion. They are not sandals that are here for a few months and then thrown away as soon as the next celebrity trend is started. You will get many years of wear out of them and they will never date. They are unique, timeless and classic. I’m actually wearing my favourite two pairs now for my fourth Summer.

If you want to do your bit for ‘slow fashion” get yourself some Ankalia sandals. Rest assured they are handcrafted in Australia, they are timeless and elegant and you will get many years of pleasure wearing them. You are not only helping the environment but you are also helping a small business owner, who will probably do a little happy dance when you order your sandals.
Lots of love,
