Girls Names that Mean Snow, Ice or Winter

One of my newest designs is in beautiful white leather with diamond coloured Swarovski crystals. Very snow inspired! Being a very keen snow skier and a former ski instructor, I had to give this new design a name that somehow relates to snow, ice or winter.
Of course, I went to Google and I found more than 34 girls names that do relate to snow, ice and winter. They are:
- Alba - Of Spanish origin, Alba means bright or white, like newly fallen snow.
- Apricity - Of English origin, Apricity means the warmth of the sun in winter.
- Bianca - This Italian name means white. I’ve done a Bianca before having named my Bianca design after my ‘bestie’ at university in Milan4.
- Blanca - Spanish for white, another way to pay homage to snow and icicles.
- Blanche - French for white, the colour of winter. Like Blanche the second wife of former Prime Minister Bob Hawke.
- Chan - This Chinese name means snow.
- Cherith - A unique Hebrew name that means winter stream.
- Demetria - The Greek goddess of winter.
- Diamond - Referring to the winter birthstone, Diamond would make a pretty name for a sparkly gir
- Eira - A Welsh name that means snow.
- Eirwen - This Welsh name means blessed snow.
- Elsa - Hugely popular now due to the movie Frozen, Elsa is Scandinavian.
- Epiphany - Epiphany is Greek for a sudden realisation and refers to a Christian winter holiday.
- Flykra - Of German, Faroese, and Danish origin. This name means snowflake.
- Frostine - A French name that means "freezing."
- Guinivere - This English name means white.
- Gwenyth - Gwenyth, or Gwen for short, is a Welsh name meaning white. Very like Gwyneth, aka Gwyneth Paltrow.
- Gwyneira - Of Welsh origin, Gwyneira is a unique name that means blessed snow.
- Haukea - A Hawaiian name that means white snow.
- Haunani - Another Hawaiian name that means beautiful snow.
- Icyln- The name Icyln doesn't mean “ice,” it instead means “compassionate.” However, it has an icy inclination in the name, making it a great winter name.
- Ivy - Of English origin, Ivy is a plant associated with winter.
- Janara- From Roman Mythology, Janara is the feminine form of Janus, God of the Snow.
- Lily – as in lily white. My Instagram friends came up with this one.
- Lumi - Finnish for snow.
- Miyuki - A Japanese name that means deep snow or beautiful snow.
- Natasha - A Russian name that means Christmas, a winter holiday.
- Neve - This Irish name means bright or snowy.
- Nevis - From Caribbean Spanish, Nevis means snow.
- Nieves - Spanish for a lady of the snow.
- Nivia - Of Latin origin, Nivia means snow.
- Skadi- From Norse Mythology, Skadi is the goddess of winter.
- Snow - An English name that means exactly that.
- Viola - Of Latin origin, Viola means winter flower.
- Xue - A Chinese name that means snowfall.
- Yukina - This Japanese name means snow.
When I choose a new sandal name, it always has to resonate with me in some way, so most of my designs are named after friends or someone that I admire. The name that has resonated with me in choosing the name for my snowy white design is Elsa. Yes, it’s due to the movie and all the little girls I see walking around in Elsa dresses and having Elsa inspired birthday parties. BUT, more importantly I put it to the vote on Instagram and Elsa came first with Lily a very close second.
So Elsa it is!
Lots of love,
Cheryl xx
