Inspirational Women – Em Carey (The Girl Who Fell from the Sky)
I find Em Carey to be a delightfully happy, upbeat, positive, motivated shiny Angel.
At the age of 20 she set off to Europe on an adventure as most young Australians do when they either finish University or High School.
It was June 2013 and only 5 days into her 3-month trip that Em went skydiving over the Swiss Alps. It was a dream of hers for as long as she could remember.
It was on this skydiving adventure that something went horribly wrong and she literally ‘fell out of the sky.’ Her lifelong adventure (bucket list item) soon turned into her worst nightmare.
Her parachute didn’t open properly and she plummeted to the ground. The next thing she remembered was waking up on the ground with her unconscious skydiving partner strapped to her back. When she went to roll him off her, she realised she couldn’t move her legs at all.
Flash forward 5 years now and Em constantly has a big smile on her face and she claims to be genuinely happier now than she ever has been in her life.
That fall from the sky should probably have killed her but somehow, she not only survived but she also learnt to walk again. She claims that learning to walk again is not what she is most proud of. She believes that the difference she has noticed in her own mind is something that surprises her the most. She says she wakes up and looks forward to everyday and she feels a kind of happiness and joy that she never felt before her accident.
